"A Zed & Two Noughts" by Peter Greenaway
film (Britain/Netherlands) 1985
A car collides with a swan outside a zoo. Two women passengers die and the driver, Alba Bewick, has to have her leg amputated. Obsessed with the accident, the husbands of the women - twins Oliver and Oswald - embark on an affair with Alba and soon begin experimenting with the time-lapse aesthetics of decay.

A Zed & Two Noughts is a visceral and cerebral treat, as dead animals decompose to the jokey rhythms of Michael Nyman, symmetry is elevated beyond obsession, and Sascha Vierney's cinematography pays homage to Vermeer. Full of surprises and magnificent conumdrums, Greenaway's third feature is as perversely comic and teasing as it is shocking.

Pink Dog Degenerating:
Paul Santoleri (US), Helena Espvall (SE)
The duo will present a shrine to the waste unavoidable that both overwhelms and nourishes our worldly existence. Espvall's bowed lines on her cello electronics will work to complete Santoleri's site specific environment of lines and forms that surround her: at once both celebrating and mourning the continual transformation of waste into new life. Visitors are encouraged to come and go as they please , to experience the walls and music in their own time and space.

We have begun with a mutual curiosity towards space and culture. The results of our questions are being articulated through movement, sound and sculptural objects. We have each created portions of this work together and separately, creating a multifaceted dialogue on the the theme of Waste that exists both as one thing and several layers simultaneously.

We are interpreting the theme of Waste through the examination of sounds that are normally considered byproducts of musical performance, such as breath, extraneous noise, and unconscious gesture. Those elements are brought to the foreground through a process of recycling and re-appropriation highlighted through the use of electronics and video.

We are exploring the theme of waste in relation to landscape, architecture and urban space. We are looking at uses of urban space and asking what makes an area of land in a city waste and to whom. We began this exploration in San Francisco where we live, and continued in Tábor.
